How to Save Money at Target
Hi. My name is Gillian, and I’m a Target addict. (But who isn’t, am I right?) As a busy working mom, a trip to Target by myself is like heaven on earth! But you know the one thing I don’t like about Target? The huge dent that each shopping trip seems to put in my wallet. I know so many of you can relate! Who can pass up all the cute home decor, clothes, shoes, and accessories while picking up those necessities? The struggle is oh so real. Wouldn’t you love to save money at Target?
Now, I’m not a couponer by any means, but Target is the one store where I will totally do a little work before shopping in order to save some cash. And you know what? I actually enjoy planning my trips! I get a little thrill by all the ways I can save money by shopping at my favorite store. I don’t want to keep all my tricks to myself, so I’m sharing them with you! Keep reading for my top 6 easy ways to save money at Target! (And you know the best part? All 6 can be stacked together, for extra savings!)
1. Cartwheel
The first thing I do before any Target trip, is check the Cartwheel app! If you don’t already have Cartwheel, you are seriously missing out! Cartwheel lets you look through hundreds of offers and pick the ones you plan to use for your shopping trip. Savings are usually anywhere from 5% all the way up to 50%! When you are checking out, all you have to do is have the cashier scan the bar code from the Cartwheel app on your phone. So easy and I love that I can see all my savings rack up since the app shows you your cumulative total amount saved since you started using Cartwheel.
Now, I know almost everyone reading this most likely already knows about how wonderful Cartwheel is! Even though I have been using Cartwheel for a long time now, there are some tips and tricks to the app, that I only just learned!
One thing I didn’t like about Cartwheel was that sometimes my phone would die while I was in the store or even worse, I would accidentally leave my phone at home! I know, I know, I should have been better prepared since I know how important Cartwheel is to my Target savings. But these things happen, and what is a girl to do? Did you know you can sign in to your Cartwheel account here and print out your bar code? Mind blown! Now I have no excuse for not being able to use my Cartwheel savings for every trip since I can print it and keep it with me in my wallet.
I also have another little tidbit of Cartwheel knowledge for you! Did you know that the Cartwheel app has a scanner? Yep, that’s right. You can scan any product you want to quickly check to see if there is an offer available for that product. Another (slower) option, would be to simply use the search feature to search the name of the product.
See why I love Cartwheel so much?
2. Redperks
Have ya’ll heard about Redperks? If you thought Cartwheel was amazing, just wait till you try out Redperks. I’m in love! Redperks isn’t available everywhere just yet, but you can go here to request access. If it is not available in your area yet, Target will keep your info and e-mail you when it is available, and trust me on this one, you will want to know when you can get your hands on this one!
Redperks is an app that rewards you with 10 points for every dollar you spend at Target. When you hit 5000 points you earn a 5% off shopping day! And let me just tell you that it only took 3 trips for me to get my first 5% off shopping trip! (Let’s not do the math on that one, ok?) And let me tell you that it just gets even better! When your on your way to earning your 5% shopping day, you get extra surprise rewards here and there. Who doesn’t love a good surprise? I’ve only had Redperks for about 5 shopping trips and I’ve already earned a free tall Starbucks hand-crafted beverage and a free bag of Simply Balanced organic granola in addition to my 5% off shopping day. Oh, and did I mention that that 5% off shopping day can be stacked with Cartwheel, Pharmacy Rewards, REDcard, and other coupons? See why this app is my new favorite thing?
3. Target REDcard
If you are a frequent Target shopper, a REDcard is a must-have! I was late in the game with getting a REDcard, because I didn’t want to sign up for any more credit cards, but what I didn’t know was that Target offers both a credit AND a debit option! So stay away from that REDcard credit card, my friends, but do sign up for that REDcard debit card! When you use your REDcard debit card while checking out a Target, you get an automatic 5% off your purchases and your purchase comes right out of your checking account like any other debit purchase. And remember, stack up those rewards! Use your REDcard with cartwheel and Redperks!
4. Target Coupons
Remember how I said that I’m not a couponer? Target is my one exception! With all the other ways to save at Target, I just can’t help but check out what coupons Target is offering so I can continue to stack up those savings! Before your next Target trip, head on over to Target’s website and scroll all the way to the bottom until you see a column called Ways to Save. Under that column, click on Coupons and VOILA, so many coupons are available for you to pick from! Select the ones you think you will use and print them. And remember, these are stackable too! Use them in addition to your REDcard, redperks, and cartwheel savings!
5. Ibotta
Ibotta is an app that gives you cash back on your grocery purchases! It works with 178 different stores (including Target!) and is so easy to use! Just open up the app, unlock the offers for products you are going to purchase, scan the barcode of the product you purchased, scan the receipt, and the cash you earned is added to your account! The cash back amounts can be soooo good too, right now I have an offer for $5 cash back on Luvs diapers! Woohoo! And your cash back can be redeemed for actual cash through Paypal or for gift cards to some great stores (like Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, and Express). And if you sign up for Ibotta here, you will get $10 cash back if you redeem a rebate within 2 weeks! Umm hello, free money? It’s a no-brainer, right?
6. Manufacturer’s Coupons
This is for those of you who cut coupons! If you cut coupons, Target is a great place to use them, because once again, they are stackable! You can use manufacturer’s coupons with Target coupons, your REDcard, cartwheel, red perks, AND IBOTTA!
Now, after reading all of those ways to save money at Target, aren’t you just itching to head to your nearest store? Remember to stack all of these babies up and get the biggest bang for your buck! Now you have no excuse not to save the most money possible at Target! And on your way in or out of the store, don’t forget to open up that Shopkick app to earn points toward a Target giftcard!
